Abstract

The effect of chemically disinfected wheat straw on the proximate composition and mineral content of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) was investigated. Different treatment levels were used in combination with different times (12, 18 and 24 hours) and doses of Formalin (250, 500 or 750 ppm) and Bavistin (75 ppm), and regulation was compared. The highest production in terms of protein in percent (25.71) was obtained in wheat straw processed with Formalin (500 ppm) + Bavistin (75 ppm) for 18 hours. Pleurotus ostreatus grown on wheat straw treated with Formalin (750 ppm) + Bavistin (75 ppm) for 18 hours yielded the highest percentage of crude fiber (21.40), Ca (22.15 mg/100 gm) and Zn (15.10mg/100 gm) content. So, sterilizing wheat straw with Formalin (750 ppm) + Bavistin (75 ppm) for 18 hours may be an economically effective treatment for the nearest compression and the higher mineral oyster mushroom content.

Astract
An experiment was conducted at the Breeder Seed Production Centre, Bangladesh Agricultiural Research Institute, Debigonj, Panchagoarh to find out the appropriate treatment combination against late blight of potato during 2007-08 seasons under natural field condition. The split plot experiment included two planting dates, 15th November (D1) and 30th November (D2) and seven different spray treatments viz.  no spray (T1), one time spray of Dithane M-45 (T2), two times spray of Dithane M-45 (T3), one time spray of Secure (T4), two times  spray of  Secure (T5), 1st spray Dithane M-45+2nd spray Secure (T6), and  1st spray Secure+2nd spray Dithane M-45 (T7) using the popular  variety Diamant. All the parameters tested were significantly influenced by the effect of planting time and spray treatments. Potato planted at 15th November showed less infection of P. infestans and higher yield. Significantly higher tuber yield (32.15 t ha-1) was found from potato planted at 15th November which was higher by 34.29% than that of 30th November (23.94 t ha-1). All the spray treatments showed better yield over control treatment (T1). The highest yield of potato was obtained from the interaction treatment planting time D1 with 2 times spray Secure (36.38 t ha-1) which was statistically at per with 2 times spray Dithane M-45 (36.03 t ha-1) . Singly the highest net return of Tk.318250 ha-1with benefit cost ratio 3.11 was observed from two times spray Dithane M-45 while the lowest by no spray of Tk.167850 ha-1with benefit cost ratio 2.15.

Key words: Planting time, fungicide, late blight and potato.
