9-2-5 PERFORMANCE OF SUMMER TOMATO AS INFLUENCED BY FOLIAR APPLICATION OF KAOLIN AND MICRONUTRIENTS AT DIFFERENT MOISTURE LEVELS

Abstract

A pot experiment was carried out at Horticulture Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from May 2015 to October 2015. The two factors experiment was laid out in Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications having nine treatment combinations with different levels of kaolin and micronutrients at different moisture levels as I0=100% ET(evapotranspiration) irrigation, I1= 80% ET irrigation and I2 =60% ET irrigation. And F0= control (spraying tap water only), F1: Spraying of kaolin 2% solution and micronutrients (B, Mn & Se) @ 50 ppm for each of the nutrient solution. F2: Spraying of kaolin 4% solution and micronutrients (B, Mn & Se) @ 100 ppm for each of the nutrient solution. Application of kaolin and micronutrients at different irrigation levels showed significant variations on most of the parameters. The best result was found from the treatment combination I1F2 with the maximum yield (1.43 kg/plant) and best quality (rich in Vitamin-C, and TSS) of tomato.

YIELD RESPONSE OF WHEAT AS AFFECTED BY IRRIGATION AND POTASSIUM FERTILIZER

Abstract

The study was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during from November 2012 to March 2013. The experiment comprised of two factors- Factor A: Irrigation, I0: No irrigation i.e. control; I1: Irrigation at 20 DAS (crown root initiation stage); I2: Irrigation at 55 DAS (flowering stage) and I3: Irrigation at 20, 55 and 75 DAS (crown root initiation stage, flowering stage and grain filling stage) and Factor B: Level of potassium fertilizer, K0: 0 kg K2O ha-1, K1: 50 kg K2O ha-1 and K2: 100 kg K2O ha-1. The irrigation levels I1, I2 and I3 were at par and had significantly higher values in number of spikes per hill, number of spikelets per spike, spike length, 1000 seed weight, straw yield and grain yield as compared to the control. Likewise application of both the doses of potassium (K1 and K2) were at par and showed significantly higher values in number of spikes per hill, number of spikelets per spike, spike length, 1000 seed weight, straw yield and grain yield than the control. Both the factors had significant effect on spike length, number of filled grains per spike, grain yield and straw yield. The interaction treatment I3K1 and I3K2 were at par showing significantly the higher number of spike per hill, number of spikelets per spike, filled grains per spike and grain yield per hectare, straw yields although the longest spike (19.60 cm), highest filled grains spike-1 (34.83). grain yield (3.79 t ha-1), straw yield (6.09 t ha-1) and biological yield (9.88 ha-1) was observed from I3K2. On the other hand, the shortest spike (13.80 cm) was recorded from I0K0. Significantly the lowest number of filled grains spike-1 (23.33), grain yield (2.04 t ha-1), straw yield (3.77 t ha-1) and biological yield (5.81 ha-1) was recorded from I2K0.

DETERMINATION OF CONVEYANCE LOSS OF IRRIGATION WATER
THROUGH EARTHEN CHANNEL

Abstract

The conveyance efficiency in irrigation system is poor due to seepage, percolation, cracking, and damaging of the earth channel. Therefore purpose of this study was to determine the conveyance losses of irrigation water through earthen channel. A 50 ft long and straight earthen channel was selected for this purpose. It was modified by excavation and compaction and also by maintaining suitable bed slope and side slopes. In this experiment discharge was measured by Inflow-Outflow method using cut-throat flumes. Results revealed that conveyance losses were 40.01%, 35.42%, 32.81% and 4% under natural condition, compacting the sides and bottom, using lining material of cow dung and rice husk and polythene sheet, respectively. It may be inferred that the mixture of cow dung and rice husk could be used as lining material because it is easily available, low cost and even unskilled labor can make it.

EFFECT OF VARIOUS INORGANIC FERTILIZER AND MANURE APPLICATIONS WITH DIFFERENT WATER MANAGEMENTS ON YIELD AND YIELD ATTRIBUTES OF BORO RICE

 Abstract

 An experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from December 2010 to April 2011 to assess the effect of various organic manure and inorganic fertilizer with different water management practices on yield and yield attributes of boro rice (BRRI dhan29). The treatment consisted of 2 factors i. e. irrigation and fertilizer plus manure. Two levels of irrigations (I0= Alternate wetting and drying and I1= Continuous flooding) with 8 levels of fertilizer plus manure, (as T0: Control, T1: 100% N100P15K45S20Zn2 (Recommended dose), T2: 50% NPKSZn + 5 ton cowdung ha-1, T3: 70% NPKSZn + 3 ton cowdung ha-1, T4: 50% NPKSZn + 4 ton poultry manure ha-1, T5: 70% NPKSZn + 2.4 ton poultry manure ha-1, T6: 50% NPKSZn + 5 ton compost ha-1 and T7: 70% NPKSZn + 3 ton compost ha-1). Results revealed that irrigation had no significant effect on the yield and yield parameters of boro rice. The treatment T4 showed the highest effective tillers hill-1, plant height, panicle length, 1000- grain wt., grain yield (6.96 t ha-1) and straw yield (6.03 t ha-1) which were lowest in T0 treatment. The highest grain (7.13 t ha-1) was recorded from the I1T4 treatment combination which was also identical to those of I0T4 (6.78 t ha-1), I0T5 (6.88 t ha-1), I1T1 (6.60 t ha-1), I1T5 (6.72 t ha-1).  The lowest (3.84 t ha-1) from I0T0. The highest nutrient concentrations and uptake were recorded also in I1T4 treatment combination. The levels of organic matter and nutrient concentration were increased in the post harvest soils where manure plus inorganic fertilizer were used. It was concluded that application of I0T4 was most favorable for improving yield and yield contributing attributes of BRRI dhan 29.
