 Abstract

The experiment was conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur Bangladesh during the period of March to June 2008 to assess the field performance of some mungbean varieties. In the experiment, a total of eight mungbean varieties viz. BINA moog-5, BARI mung-3, BARI mung-4, BARI mung-5, BARI mung-6, BU mug-1, BU mug-2 and BU mug-4 were evaluated at field condition for yield performance and incidence and percent disease index (PDI) of Cercospora leaf spot (CLS), incidence and severity of Mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV). Among the varieties BARI mung-6 was less infested by CLS and MYMV followed by BU mug-4. The lowest disease incidence (27.38%) and PDI (40.74%) of CLS was found in BARI mung-6. This variety also showed the lowest incidence (33.01%) and disease severity score (3.36) of MYMV. The highest disease incidence (51.89%) and PDI (71.85%) of CLS was found in BARI mung-4. This variety also showed the highest incidence (64%) and severity score (8.73) of MYMV. In yield performance, the highest grain yield (1453 kg ha-1) was found in BARI mung-6 and the lowest (1066 kg ha-1) in BARI mung-4.

Key words: Mungbean, YMV, Cercospora
