 Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University during July to December 2010 to compare the growth, dry matter accumulation and yield performance of modern inbred (BRRI dhan49) and hybrid rice varieties (BRRI hybrid dhan2, Heera2, Tia and Aloron) in Aman season. All the varieties exhibited higher amount of chlorophyll (20%) over inbred BRRI dhan49 in their flag leaf. Leaf dry matter, stem dry matter and total dry matter accumulation ability was higher in inbred BRRI dhan49 compared to all studied hybrid rice varieties. BRRI dhan49 and all tested hybrid rice varieties showed almost similar numbers of tillers m-2 at panicle initiation stage but tillers mortality rate was higher in all hybrids. The inbred variety BRRI dhan49 produced the highest grain yield (5.58 t ha-1). BRRI hybrid dhan2 provided the maximum grain yield (4.45 t ha-1) among hybrid ones.

Key words: Hybrid rice, Chlorophyll, Yield, Yield attributes and Aman season.
